Mission:
        • To determine basic and applied technologies relevant to genetic purity, seed physiology and seed health.
        • To propagate regulations and rules on seed of government and Ministry of agriculture and rural development to agricultural staffs and farmers in the Mekong Delta.
        • To set up a seed testing laboratory comply with national standard.
        • Functions:
        • To study aspects relevant to seed technology especially in rice and soybean.
        • To apply seed technology in the relevant services.
        • To co-operate with local and international organizations to aim at enhancing research and training activities.
 Research work:
  • genetic purity of seed and aspects relevant to seed rules.
  • Seed phisiology.
  • Seed health.
 Expected outputs in 2006-2010.
  • To contribute increase of rice farmers’ certified seed use from 25% to 40% of rice cultivated area in the Mekong Delta.
  • To guarantee source of basic rice seed to supply for about 40% of certified rice seed producing area.
  • To guarantee source of basic soybean seed to supply for about 10% of certified soybean seed producing area.
  • To set up a seed testing laboratory comply with national standard in 2008.
  • To train 1 Ph. D. and 2 MSc. in discipline of seed technology or plant breeding and genetics.
  • To train about 1,000 agricultural staffs and farmers in aspects of seed production.
  • To restore genetic purity of some best traditional and modern rice varieties with total quantity of 5 tons.
  • To collect all law documents relevant to seed in Vietnam, South East Asian countries and the world.
 

Co-operation:

  • To co-operate with divisions of CLRRI.
  • To co-operate with South station of National Centre for Variety Evaluation and seed Certification in Hochiminh city.
  • To co-operate with Danida in Vietnam.
